When you are in Las Vegas for Interbike, it’s your birthday, and you’re Gordon Ramsay fans, his restaurant, Steak, is the choice for dinner for the occasion.
Gordon Ramsay Steak: The experience
Steak is a high-energy dining experience as Gordon Ramsay brings a bit of London to Paris (the hotel & casino) – complete with a simulated walk through the chunnel to reach the dining room from the casino.
The décor is beautiful, but the music a tad too loud. We had difficulty hearing the servers and each other. The service was stellar – friendly and extremely prompt.
Gordon Ramsay Steak: Getting started
The wine list is delivered on an iPad with a very well designed app with drill downs for each wine (post-dining research revealed the app was designed by SmartCellar technology – kudos).
We selected the Testamatta, Soffocone from Tuscany for $125. The wine was rich & well-rounded and delivered just before an assortment of breads arrived.
The server explained the bread platter – lemon-thyme-olive oil focaccia, roasted pancetta, mushroom-truffle, Stilton-walnut with an English Devonshire sea salt butter.
Gordon Ramsay Steak: The Summer 2012 Tasting Menu
We opted for the tasting menu. Priced at $135 per person, it is a great way to sample your way through Gordon’s signature dishes.
Amuse Buche: Scotch Egg
– bershire pork sausage, red wine braised cabbage –
The egg was cooked perfectly and the braised cabbage was a great accent.
Off to a very good start.
First course -Heirloom Tomatoes
– jamon iberico de bellota, picallili puree, ticklemore cheese, champagne vinagrette, basil crystals –
Surprisingly, it was the course we were still talking about it the next day.
The basil crystals were a delightful surprise.
Second course: Asparagus Soup
– dungeness crab, parmesan custard, pickled white asparagus, smoked salmon caviar –
Each spoonful delivered a different flavor as you uncovered the caviar, then the crab.
Third course: Beef Wellington
– glazed root vegetables, potato puree, red wine demi glace –
The Beef Wellington is Gordon Ramsay’s signature dish and is served medium-rare.
The filet was tender & the crust flaky and light.
It definitely lived up to its reputation.
Dessert course: Melon Panna Cotta & Sticky Toffee Pudding
– cantaloupe panna cotta, watermelon sorbet, honeydew consume, parisian melon –
The Melon Panna Cotta is the tasting menu dessert, but our server offered to substitute one of our desserts for another if we would like to try something else and recommended the Sticky Toffee Pudding.
The Melon Panna Cotta was light, with complex flavors.
Sticky Toffee Pudding
– sweet pudding cake, brown sugar toffee, brown butter ice cream –
A rich, sweet cake with toffee sauce served with a slab of brown butter ice cream.
The meal was fabulous – one of the best in recent memory. A must if in Las Vegas and well worth every penny.
Gordon Ramsay Steak: Plan ahead
We made our reservation a few weeks ahead of time and landed a 6:30 spot.
There were wanna-be diners lined up each evening at the opening time of 5:00pm for a chance to gain entrance. Call ahead and get a reservation.
