Our Story

In 2010, we set plans in motion to leave our conventional lives of working and taking a few vacations a year to pursuing a life filled with doing what we loved full-time.

We sold our house in Dallas where we’d lived for the last two decades and, in early 2011, moved to Denver, Colorado.

We love hiking, skiing, cycling, traveling and photography and, over the first couple of years of our adventure, those passions and skills evolved into more and more time on the road. We began chronicling our experiences on this site and we also began photographing pro cycling races and other events.

The first summer in Denver was filled with frequent 50 – 60 mile bike rides, hikes & climbs in the nearby mountains, and quite a bit of bar time in LoDo and Highlands, both which within walking distance of where we lived.

Having travelled frequently for decades, we continued to hit the road often, but changed our attention to new destinations, new locations and new pursuits.

Aspen 100 days pinFaced with winters of driving through the Eisenhower tunnel to get to the ski resorts, and the associated I-70 ski traffic, we bought a place in Aspen in the fall of 2011.

We had skied in Aspen for years and, in the first season beat our previous ski season record of 30 days on the hill, skiing 104 days in the 2011-2012 season.

Summers in Aspen are perfect for cycling and lots of hiking, with countless trails near Aspen and in Moab, which is only a couple of hours away.

Fine food & wine are also abundant in Colorado, and we didn’t pass on the opportunity to learn from some of the best at the many food and wine festivals, including Aspen Food & Wine.

After a second season in Aspen, we decided it was time to move on. When the for sale sign went up, we headed to Florida to shoot Red Sox spring training and meet some of the locals.

We soon got an offer on our place, so we needed to find our next home base.

We drew a circle around the city of San Francisco that included all cities within an hour drive and decided we’d give Santa Rosa a try, or as we put it, the city by the city by the bay.

The Amgen Tour of California ended in Santa Rosa in 2013, so we simply stayed when it was over and began to explore wine country and Northern California.

We left our stuff in storage in Aspen and decided to roam. When in Northern California, we hiked Mendocino and the Redwoods, tasted at some of the hundreds of wineries in Sonoma and Napa, and of course, ate our way through San Francisco.

Roam we did –  spending over 1/3 of the year in hotel rooms and visiting nearly 1/2 the states in the U.S. in the process. We also realized we’d found a new normal.

Our original plan in 2010 was to live in seven cities in seven years. We’d managed five in three years, and looking at another move, we decided we needed a new plan. In 2013, we found ourselves in Reno having dinner along the Truckee River and commented on how much we liked the area.

The next morning we decided to base in Reno-Tahoe, and since then, we spend our Reno-Tahoe time skiing, hiking and enjoying great food and wine.

And, that’s our story. In 2015, we once again spent over 1/3 of the year on the road. We shot the Tour de France, skied, rode bikes, ran, hiked and drank wine on multiple continents.

In 2016, we skied at Lake Tahoe, drank some wine in Sonoma, and then we were off to Florida, Quito, the Galapagos, the Hawaiian islands, Minnesota, Colorado, the Pacific Northwest and Singapore.

What’s next? We decided in late 2016 to head out full time, selling our house and nearly all of our stuff and we now live on the road full time. Hope to see you there!

Cheers!
